They Won't Go to the Light

Ghostly noises to my right
Creeping coldness wafting near
Spooky whispers in the night
Just Grandma lurking near
Gentle bumping in the room
Cups and saucers moving
Lights that flicker in the gloom
It's grandpa disapproving

When Grandpa passed away
My Grandma cried all day
With dying gasps
Her hands he clasped
And said his last
With us aghast
"I'll haunt til your last day"

They won't go to the light
They're lurking here all night
Knocking on walls
Walking the halls
Soft distant calls
Leaves me appalled
We've told them it's not right

She passed this last December
The last that I remember
She said she'd never leave
We begged her let us grieve
She stared ahead
Said "oh, that's Fred,
I'll stay here if I please"

And brought a priest
So they would cease

They are deceased
To where they would be free

The furniture it shook
They started throwing books
The cups and saucers shook
Priest opened up The Book
Then yelled, "It's time to go,
You really should, you know"
But Grandpa bellowed, "No!"
Then there she was: Aunt Flo
Their humbled looks
They both were shook
And followed her below
